By Innovation Only Recap

Everything Apple announced in the Sept 10 keynote

The “By innovation only” Apple Event took place the other day and we were very excited for all the announcements, especially the iPhone updates! If you didn’t catch the keynote yourself, here’s what you need to know:

Apple Arcade and Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is the new video streaming subscription service. Launching November 1, this service will also cost $5.99 per month and will include Family Sharing access.

The exciting news is if you buy any Mac, iPhone, iPad or Apple TV starting now, you’ll get a whole year of Apple TV+ for free! The service will be launching with five original TV shows and more will be added every month.

The first things to be announced were updates to two of Apple’s upcoming services, Apple Arcade and AppleTV+.

Apple Arcade will launch September 19 and will be priced at $5.99 per month, which includes Family Sharing access of up to six people. There will also be a one-month free trial so you can test it out. Apple says there will be new games added every month, with a ton of games already available.

Tim Cook surprised us with an announcement of a new entry-level iPad. The successor to the 9.7inch iPad is an all-new 10.2inch iPad. It has a larger display than before and will come with iPadOS 13, Apple’s Smart Connector, Apple Pencil support, the A10 Fusion processor and more.

Apple Watch

Next, Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 5, with the first ever always-on display. This display will work intelligently, so when your wrist is down, the screen will be dimmed but the time will still be visible. When you raise your wrist or tap the screen the display will return to full brightness.

The emergency services were also highlighted. With the Series 5, users with the cellular models can now make international calls to emergency services, no matter where the watch was purchased or whether cellular services have been activated.

The Apple Watch Series 5 is available in a range of materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, ceramic, and an all-new titanium.

Now the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the iPhone announcements.

iPhone 11

Apple started by announcing a follow-up to the iPhoneXR, the iPhone 11. The highlight was of course the camera. The new camera features wide and ultra-wide lenses, giving you the ability to adjust the cropping and zoom. There’s also a new night mode that comes on automatically, brightens photos, and reduces noise in low-light situations, plus a next-generation Smart HDR.

They also announced a new video recording feature, QuickTake, which makes it easier to take videos by long-pressing on the camera shutter button. Video is 4K quality at 60 fps, as well as slo-mo, time-lapse, and expanded dynamic range.

The front-facing iPhone 11 camera has been updated to 12 MP with wide-angle selfie support in landscape. You can also take 4K video at 60 fps, as well as slow-mo videos.

It’s powered by Apple’s new A13 Bionic chip, its faster processor ever. The iPhone 11 has a one-hour-longer battery life than the iPhone XS.

The iPhone 11 is available in six colors: black, white, red, purple, green, and yellow. The iPhone 11 also features a new anodized aluminum finish, which is meant to be more durable.

Starting from $979.

iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max

Last but not least, Apple announced the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.

The new iPhone 11 Pro line features a triple-camera setup on the back, which includes a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, and a super wide angle lens. The new super wide angle lens is shown in the Camera app as a 0.5x button. Just zoom out to see more and take wider shots, from 0.5x to 2x. The ultra-wide has an f/2.4 aperture with a 120-degree field of view.

The iPhone 11 Pro also includes Night mode.

It also includes Apple’s new A13 Bionic chip and up to 4 hours longer battery life than the iPhoneXS on the Pro and up to 5 hours longer battery life on the Pro Max than the iPhone XS Max.

They all feature a matte finish in four different colour: midnight green, space gray, silver, and gold.

The Pro is starting from $1,379 and the Pro Max is starting from $1,519.

New Macs for Back to School

Recently, Apple announced updates to two of its most popular laptops: the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro.

Here’s what you need to know:

MacBook Air

Updates to this laptop were minimal, keeping the same thin, lightweight classic design you expect from your MacBook Air. The MacBook Air still has the beautiful Retina display, but was upgraded with True Tone display for a more natural viewing experience.

Another great feature of the MacBook Air is the use of Touch ID for login, making it quick an convenient to log in and get started, while maintaining the level of privacy and security you’d expect from Apple.

The best part about the announcement was that you’ll get these upgrades and all the features you already know and love at a lower price than ever, now starting at $1449.99.

Available in silver, space grey and gold, and giving you all-day battery life, the MacBook Air is your perfectly portable, do-it-all notebook.

MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro was already a highly capable machine, packing powerful processors, super-fast SSDs, all-day battery life and an amazing display.

Now, the entry-level MacBook Pro has been updated with the latest quad-core processors for up to 2 x faster performance. Like to work on multiple things at once? This processor will have no trouble simultaneously running multiple apps, tabs and switching between multiple virtual desktops frequently. You can also easily edit photos in Apple Photos, Adobe Phototshop or Lightroom.

The entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro also adds Touch Bar and Touch ID, True Tone to the brilliant Retina display, the Apple T2 Security Chip and immersive stereo speakers with wide stereo sound.

The price tag that comes along with these amazing upgrades? Now at a new, lower price, starting at $1,699.

If you’re ready to get your hands some of the most loved notebooks, or just have questions about these upgrades or any Apple devices, don’t hesitate to come in store or give us a call. One of our Certified Apple Specialists would be happy to help!

Wrapping up it's Show Time

Apple surprised us last week ahead of Monday’s “It’s show time” event when they unveiled new iPads, iMacs and AirPods. The Apple Event itself launched a range of new subscription services, which we can wait to check out. Here’s a recap of everything that was announced:

Apple announced two new iPads ahead of Monday’s event, the all-new iPad Air and the new iPad mini.

iPad Air

We were excited to see this iPad get an update from the original. The tagline for this iPad is “power isn’t just for the pros” because it shares some of the features with the iPad Pro models.

• With an ultra-thin 10.5-inch design, this model weighs just a pound, so is super portable and lightweight.

• This new machine offers the latest innovations including Apple pencil support and high-end performance

• Serving as a middle-tier option between the original iPad and the iPad Pro, the iPad Air comes in at a great price

• With the A12 Bionic chip, the new iPad Air also delivers a 70% boost in performance and twice the graphics capability.

• It offers the same great-all-day battery life as other iPads, lasting up to 10 hours depending on tasks.

iPad Mini

For anyone who was a fan of the smaller 7.9-inch iPad, you’re going to love the upgrades to the new iPad mini. It has almost the same specs as the iPad Air, but on a smaller screen.

• With the A12 Bionic chip, this is a powerful machine, capable of multi-tasking and delivering 3 times the performance and 9 times faster graphics.

• The advanced Retina display is 25% brighter and has the highest pixel density of any iPad

• Now offers Apple Pencil support, making it the perfect take-anywhere notepad.

Both new iPads are now available to pre-order.

We were also pretty excited to see a refresh for the iMac announced last week, with the desktop computers maintaining the same sleek design but with upgraded internals: new processors and graphics chips.

• You’re going to love the huge boost in performance. The new 27-inch iMac houses the 9th-generation Intel CPUs, with both 6-core and 8-core configurations. These new processors will delivery up to 2 times the performance of the previous generation iMac.

• For GPU upgrades, you can now get Radeon Pro Vega graphics upgrades on both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch models.

• The iMac still boasts a stunning Retina display, amazing design, and macOS Mojave that you’ve always loved.

The AirPods also got an upgrade which was announced last week prior to the Apple event. The price of the AirPods is remaining the same, but you now have the option to add on a portable charging case, which can be bought as a combo or an addition to the AirPods you already have and love.

• The new AirPods have been upgraded with a new H1 processing chip, which allows you to connect to calls 1.5x faster than before and provides a more stable wireless connection. This chip will also allow for less latency, so you’ll experience less delays with what you see onscreen to what you hear.

• You also now have the ability to use Siri through your AirPods, which is especially cool if you want to be able to use your device while on the go.

• The new AirPods will also offer you longer battery life while using them to make phone calls.

We’re always up for an upgrade, talk to us about getting your hands on a pair.

Then on Monday, we all tuned in for the much anticipated ‘It’s show time’ Apple Event. Here’s what they announced:

Apple News Plus

Apple announced that they’re adding magazines to their Apple News app, in addition to the traditional and digital media you can currently find. At launch there were over 300 magazines accessible to subscribers, and the service will also suggest other magazines and articles they think you’d be interested in based on what you read. New issues of the magazines you subscribe to will be automatically downloaded so they’re available for offline reading when you want them.

Apple made sure to note that your privacy will be protected and advertisers can’t track what you’re reading so you won’t receive targeted ads based on stories you click on.

The subscription service is available now for $12.99 a month with free family sharing. You can also get your first month free!

Apple Arcade

Your iPhone could become your next gaming device with the new Apple Arcade. The new service will work like a subscription to games that are available through the App Store instead of traditional titles that you can play on sets like the PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch. You can also play games across Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and a Mac computer, and games will be available for offline play.

Apple TV

The new Apple TV service will allow you to watch all of your favourite channels – including HBO, PBS, CBS, and Acorn TV, all without needing to use a 3rd party app. You can pick and choose which Apple TV Channels you want to subscribe to and pay per channel.

There will also be a new Apple TV Plus option which will offer original programming, but details have not yet been released.
