Like most Apple owners, you love your Apple devices and use them frequently; however, a natural consequence of this heavy use of your Apple devices is that they can sometimes get a little dirty. Not to worry! As Toronto’s premier Apple Specialists, we here at Carbon Computing know some valuable tips and tricks that you can use to clean up your beloved Apple products, whether it’s your iPhone, iPad, or one of Apple’s various computer models.
The first tip—and likely the most important—is to turn off your device and unplug it from external power sources before you clean them. We repeat: turn off your devices and unplug them from external power sources, devices, and cables! The reasoning for this is straightforward: electricity and water do not mix—even the most infinitesimal amount of water can cause irreparable damage! You want to clean your Apple devices, not fry them!
Next, use a soft, dampened, lint-free cloth to wipe down the outside of your Apple devices to your liking. As a rule, refrain from using abrasive materials to clean your devices: they risk causing scratches and other minor exterior damage to your valuable Apple devices. Specifically, the use of abrasive materials on the iPad’s display can cause the oleophobic coating, which repels the oil from user’s hands, to deteriorate prematurely. Conversely, the use of soft, lint-free cloths does not risk any sort of damage.
While you should use a dampened cloth, it should go without saying that, whatever you do, do not get any sort of liquid or moisture into the openings of your device, such as the earphone jack or the charging port. As an example, acetone sprayed directly onto the screen of your iMac could potentially dribble down into your iMac’s interior, which could cause serious damage to your iMac. Again, you want to clean your Apple devices, not destroy them!
You should also refrain from using aerosol sprays, abrasives, and solvents. Such materials run the risk of damaging the beautiful finish of your Apple devices, which will most likely not affect the functioning of your device but is nonetheless the sort of damage one would never want to see occur.
As you can see, cleaning your Apple devices do not have to be an intimidating or worrying challenge. Following these simple rules and guidelines will help ensure your Apple products are returned to a pristine state while preventing any damage and maintaining full functionality.
